Richard Cromwell was an American actor who starred in films such as Jezebel, Young Mr. Lincoln and The Lives of a Bengal Lancer. He was married briefly to actress Angela Lansbury and served in the military during World War II.

Richard Cromwell (1626-1712) was the son of Oliver Cromwell and the last Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. He ruled for nine months in 1658-59, but faced challenges from the army, Parliament and the Royalists, and was eventually ousted by the Restoration of 1660.

The eldest surviving son of Oliver Cromwell and Elizabeth Bourchier, Richard failed in his attempt to carry on his father’s role as leader of the Commonwealth. He served in the Parliamentary army in 1647 and 1648.
