Early life
Gabin was born Jean-Alexis Moncorgé in Paris, the son of Madeleine Petit and Ferdinand Moncorgé, a cafe owner and cabaret entertainer whose stage name was Gabin, which is a first name in French. He grew up in the village of Mériel in the Seine-et-Oise (now Val-d'Oise) département, about 22 mi (35 km) north of Paris. He attended the Lycée Janson de Sailly. Death
Gabin died of leukemia at the American Hospital of Paris, in the Parisian suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine. His body was cremated, and—with full military honours—his ashes were scattered at sea from a military ship.

10 déc. 2007 · Quatre-vingt-treize rôles, quarante-six ans de carrière feront de Jean Gabin l'acteur français le plus célèbre de l'époque. De 1930 à 1935, il tourne dix-huit films et gagne ses galons de vedette avec La Bandera (J. Duvivier, 1935). Tout Gabin, déjà, se révèle dans cette entreprise.
Le cinéaste crée un Jean Gabin moderne et l'identifie au destin et aux malheurs des classes populaires. Tous les films qui vont suivre reflètent tour à tour la crise, la montée puis la chute du Front populaire et la menace grandissante de la guerre.
