Roy Del Ruth (October 18, 1893, Delaware – April 27, 1961) was an American filmmaker. Early career. Silent film The Heart Snatcher (1920) directed by Roy Del Ruth for Fox Film Corporation. Beginning his Hollywood career as a writer for Mack Sennett in 1915, Del Ruth later directed his first short film Hungry Lions (1919) for the producer.
Roy Del Ruth was a prolific director who worked in silent and sound films, from musicals to crime dramas. He directed James Cagney in The Maltese Falcon (1931) and Blonde Crazy (1931), and Bette Davis in Bureau of Missing Persons (1933).
