Le groupe se forme officiellement en 1994, alors composé de Thomas Lauderdale au piano, Gavin Bondy à la trompette, Derek Rieth aux percussions, Martin Zarzar à la batterie, Phil Baker à la basse et China Forbes au micro. En 1997 sort leur premier album « Sympathique » qui devient double disque d’or.

China joined in 1995, so did Gavin (Bondy) our trumpet player, and Robert (Taylor), our trombonist, Brian Davis, our percussionist, and Dan Faehnle, our guitarist.
