Central's History. A short note by Professor Simon Shepherd, Professor Emeritus of Theatre. Elsie Fogerty founded The Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art at the Royal Albert Hall in 1906. Fogerty was a specialist in speech training.

For all students looking to study in 2025, our 1st round of auditions will take place remotely, via self-tape submission. At Central, the audition process for our BA (Hons) Acting programmes consists of 3 separate rounds.
Some of the major innovations in performance practices over the past hundred years have been drawn from scenographic developments. The MA/MFA Scenography courses approach scenography from multiple practical and theoretical perspectives to create new opportunities for experimentation and authorship.

The MA Drama and Movement Therapy course at Central offers a particular pedagogic approach to learning the craft of dramatherapy and is a unique combination of drama and movement within an intensive experiential training.
