A taxi driver and aspiring actor-singer Larry Gormley becomes entangled with gangsters when he steals a briefcase full of money that was left behind in his cab.
One day he has a look in the suitcase that Ramirez is carrying around: it’s full of money – £250,000 to be precise. He can’t resist and steals it. In front of his friends, he claims he’s finally got a contract with a famous director and invites them to celebrate while the mob is after the money.
