Newgrange is a Stone Age (Neolithic) monument in the Boyne Valley, County Meath, it is the jewel in the crown of Ireland's Ancient East. Newgrange was constructed about 5,200 years ago (3,200 B.C.) which makes it older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Giza.
Le site a gagné son nom actuel lorsque les terres sur lesquelles se trouvent le tumulus ont été données à un grand propriétaire qui se servit de cette parcelle pour installer une grange. Après son utilisation initiale, Newgrange a été scellé pendant plusieurs millénaires.
Newgrange est un lieu ultra-touristique qui fait partie des spots les plus populaires d’Irlande. Situé à moins d’une heure de Dublin, le lieu est incroyable, a été classé au Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO et vaut vraiment le détour.
Newgrange is the main monument in the Brú na Bóinne complex, a World Heritage Site that also includes the passage tombs of Knowth and Dowth, as well as other henges, burial mounds and standing stones. [3] Newgrange consists of a large circular mound with an inner stone passageway and cruciform chamber.
