"Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" (say: got air-HALT-ə frants dən KY-zər, meaning "God Save Francis the Emperor") was the national anthem of Austria-Hungary. It was sometimes known as the "Kaiserhymne" (say: KY-zər-HIM-nə). It was a personal hymn for Emperor Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire.
Zunächst wurde die Fassung „Gott erhalte unsern Kaiser, unsern Kaiser Ferdinand!“ des schlesischen Dichters Karl von Holtei (1798–1880) ausgewählt. Sie war von April 1835 bis Jänner 1836 in Gebrauch.
