29 mai 2019 · 45. For both historical and financial reasons, American Express acceptance in France is quite low. Visa and MasterCard were associated from the start with the CB program, so anywhere they take cards they will take Visa and MasterCard, it's a standard part of the contract a merchant would get from their bank for card acceptance.

Most POS terminals should support magstripe in order to serve disabled customers who cannot use chip & pin as well as foreign customers.
6. You can pay for almost everything by Visa or Mastercard in Paris. There might be a minimum purchase amount of a few euros; 5 or 10 euros used to be common but many places have lowered that minimum. There are only a few places where you should expect to have to pay in cash: Street stalls, e.g. markets. Some merchants will take cards but not all.

7 déc. 2019 · 15. I just consulted some friends who live in Hong Kong: no, Amex is not widely received in Hong Kong at all. In fact, not even Hong Kong Monetary Authority's centralized payment system (Faster Payment System) support American Express. Only perhaps high-end department stores, luxury hotels, and restaurants catering to western guests take them.

30 mai 2015 · 2. Most US banks are not using Chip and PIN, but only Chip and Signature. You can find Chip and PIN cards in the US, but it will take some shopping. Note that Maestro is generally not accepted for payments in the US and usually only works for ATM withdrawals, so it probably will be far less useful than you think.
American Express probably runs around 50% of Visa/MC. So if you're planning on paying for everything with your Amex, you're going to run in to some trouble. If you are planning to use it in the first list of places (mostly for larger purchases), you'll have better luck, but will probably run in to somewhere that doesn't accept them.
