  2. 9 mars 2017 · Proof = incontrovertible evidence, is a concept: "These photographs and your fingerprints are proof that you were in the house." In this meaning, " proof " is uncountable - never plural. A proof - a formal, written, demonstration of the truth of a mathematical theory - is countable. Some claim: You definitely can say - I have a lot of proofs ...

  3. 2 déc. 2011 · English - Australian. Dec 2, 2011. #4. 'As proof' sounds neither natural nor appropriate. I imagine that the 'agreement' outlines certain conditions to which you are prepared to commit. While your signature at the end is in fact a proof of sorts that it is you that is entering the 'agreement', it is not necessary to state the fact.

  4. 4 juin 2010 · Jun 4, 2010. #3. filleanglaise said: You don't need the a here, I have proof of something is correct. I think it depends on the context. "I have a proof of the BSD conjecture" is correct; maybe you could say "I have proof of the BSD conjecture," but it would sound odd to me. On the other hand, you could say "I have proof that you weren't at the ...

  5. 31 mars 2014 · Mar 31, 2014. #1. Bonjour, Savez-vous si les rhums type "overproof rum" ou "151 proof rum", qui titrent à 75° d'alcool, ont un nom en particulier en français? Je tombe toujours sur leur nom en anglais et j'aimerais savoir s'il y a une traduction ou si on emploie le terme anglais en français aussi? Merci d'avance!

  6. 15 nov. 2014 · Nov 15, 2014. #7. Biffo said: In fact 'proof' can be countable or uncountable depending on the context. There are proofs (countable) in printing and in mathematics for example. In criminal law, proof is uncountable. As PaulQ says, it is uncountable in this context. Yes, you can use "any". As to if the word "prof" is countable or uncountable in ...

  7. 26 mars 2016 · Mar 26, 2016. #6. I think you need to open a separate thread for that, Pulpanker. To return to your original question, "I am proof" sounds more natural and also, saying "I am the proof" does change the meaning a bit - it implies you're the only proof that it works. The first, without the "the" suggests that there may be others who're also proof ...

  8. 6 août 2014 · English -- USA. Aug 6, 2014. #2. "Dummy-proof" = "designed so that a dummy [unintelligent or ignorant person] cannot mess it up". So saying "it's not dummy proof" means "it's vulnerable to being messed up / broken by someone stupid." Tej is saying "don't touch that cable, because you don't know enough about it to prevent messing it up!"

  9. 22 juil. 2016 · Northern California. AE, Español. Jul 20, 2016. #2. To "put to the proof" does mean "to put to the test" or "to test." There may be several ways to read the passage. The Marquis may be saying that he should be trusted (to behave properly?) because the girl won't let him do otherwise.

  10. 7 mars 2006 · Mar 7, 2006. #2. proof points is not a set phrase, so the meaning has to be derived from context. In AE, we get "points" for doing thing. Brownie points for cooperating, honesty points for not lying when we easily could have, etc. So going forward (in the future) we will have built proof points for delivering ROI (and ROI on ROI) consistently ...
