Though he was perhaps the least known of the bedrock members of the group, Kelly played an important role as a vital part of an all-time favorite group. Kelly is also notable for how he left the group: walking away from music to become a biology teacher in the public schools in New Jersey.

Sadly, in December of 2014, both Blue Lovett and Sonny Bivins died, and original member Kenny "Wally" Kelly soon after, leaving Gerald Alston as the lone surviving member of the most popular version of The Manhattans. He continued to perform with Tyson and May, until David Tyson's tragic death in 2022.

KENNETH “WALLY” KELLY, the last surviving original member of the Manhattans, died on Tuesday 17th February. He was aged 72. With a sad synchronicity, his passing comes just two months after the deaths of two other group members, Winfred ‘Blue’ Lovett (9th December 2014) and Edward ‘Sonny’ Bivins (3rd December 2014).
