The passive sounds quite odd with "free of": "The prisoners were freed of dirt." Dirt (typically) isn't a constraint. Watch out for metaphors though.

There are some cases where for seems to me to be impossible, e.g. "The poison was harmful for her." This seems to mean something like "was harmful as far as she was concerned." The question would be "how many Euros, not how much Euros." Whenever the noun can be "pluralized," you use few. Things like "money, salt, dirt, etc" are not countable, so you use little.
