The database covers the geographic area of European mainland, Macaronesian islands, Cyprus, Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya.
Fauna Europaea est une base de données en ligne recensant la faune européenne. Le projet a été créé par la Commission européenne, pour une période de quatre ans (du 1 er mars 2000 au 1 er mars 2004), lors de programmes-cadre impliquant, entre autres, la biodiversité.
Fauna Europaea is a database of the scientific names and distribution of all living multicellular European land and fresh-water animals. It serves as a standard taxonomic source for animal taxonomy within the Pan-European Species directories Infrastructure (PESI).
