James Clavell, né le 10 octobre 1921 à Sydney et mort le 7 septembre 1994 à Vevey, est un écrivain, scénariste, réalisateur et producteur britannique d'origine australienne. He directed the popular 1967 film To Sir, with Love, for which he also wrote the script. Biography. Early life. Born in Sydney, Australia, Clavell was the son of Commander Richard Charles Clavell, a Royal Navy officer who was stationed in Australia with the Royal Australian Navy from 1920 to 1922.
Clavell is very well-known for "The Great Escape" (1963), "The Satan Bug" (1965), "King Rat" (1965), "To Sir, with Love" (1967), "Tai-Pan" (1986), "Noble House" (1988), and especially "Shogun" (1980). Shogun won the Golden Globe Award for Best TV-Series - Drama and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series: James Clavell (executive producer).

It became the second highest-rated television mini-series in history with an audience of over 120,000,000. Other Clavell works that have been made into feature films or mini-series include Tai-Pan (1984) and Noble House (1988). Clavell also co-produced Shōgun: The Musical (1989) for the Broadway stage.
