Rooftop and terrace are not synonyms in BE: we have roof (top) terraces and terraces, they are not necessarily the same thing. Yes, Packard, we call those terraces as well.

I wrote, at first, "one of the beams that was holding up", but then had second thoughts that it was all of the beams that were supporting the roof, not just one. So I changed the singular "was" to the plural "were". - One of the active (supporting) beams happened to have some cracks.
