Thompson is best known as a member of the English alternative rock band The Cure from 1983–1993 and 2005–2011, during which he was credited as Porl Thompson and played mainly guitar with occasional keyboards and saxophone. After leaving the Cure he has focused on a successful career as a visual artist.
The Cure. It all started in 1976 as Easy Cure, formed by Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) along with schoolmates Michael Dempsey (bass), Lol Tolhurst (drums) and local guitar hero Porl Thompson. They began writing and demoing their own songs almost immediately, playing throughout 1977 in Southern England to an ever growing army of fans.
5 mars 2015 · Former The Cure star Porl Thompson has legally changed his name to Pearl and vowed to dedicate the rest of his life to art after selling off stage gear and equipment linked to his former band.

Multi-instrumentalist and visual artist, born 8 November 1957, Wimbledon, south London. Thompson first collaborated with Robert Smith as a member of the band known as Malice (1976) and later Easy Cure (1977–78). Following Thompson's departure in April 1978, the group was renamed The Cure.
