December 2007. Bought my wife a '05 Escape Limited 6 4x4 three months ago. After two snow/ice storms she complained to me about the 4x4 not seeming to engage. My 2005 Ford Escape with 94K miles has begun to make a constant rumbling noise. At first I thought tire noise because it began after putting on new front brake rotors and "rotating" rear tires to front (same side). Just after that I drove 1200 miles road trip and noise may have gotten slightly worse.
Tiffiny. Last week my 2005Ford Escape Hybrid engine blew up. Yes two pistons pushed through the engine block. It only had 63,000 miles on it, I only took it to the dealer for repair since buying it new (no one else would touch a hybrid). So I am looking at $8,000 plus to replace the engine.
I just ordered and received the 2009 Ford Escape XLT 4WD with V6 and 6 speed trans. It is charcoal gray (They call it black pearl) and has the dark charcoal interior. A co-worker has a 2006 and it was loud, bouncy and gutless. Even witht he V6.
