The logic behind that is that WWI soldiers was not interested in gain inches of terrain only to lose it at counterattacks, they only want to go home. To ameliorate the effect, you need to build infrastructure like fortress, factories, railways and harbors.

GOLDMARK. Goldmark is the premium currency in Supremacy 1914 which can be obtained by completing the turorial, by winning game rounds and by purchasing it via the in-game shop or the Mobile Shop. You can play very succesfully without Goldmark, but employing it strategically may be the deciding factor for a victory.
Short Answer, Yes. If your army unit (s) are at sea, they do 1/3 damage and have 1/3 strength. When disembarking, they are considered to be at sea for this purpose. This is also at game start, Islands are very hard to invade.
