American Gothic is a 1930 painting by Grant Wood in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. Il fréquente brièvement l’Académie Julian à Paris en 1923. D’abord spécialisé dans la représentation de paysages du Middle West dans un style naïf, il accède à la célébrité en 1930 avec American Gothic, présenté à un concours organisé par l’Art Institute of Chicago. Il obtient la médaille de bronze.
