13 août 2019 · ad 1) MOK (Machine Owner Key) is about securing the boot process by only allowing approved OS components and drivers to run. MOK must be implemented by the "BIOS" - or some startup code inside the computer, anyway. The main idea is that only code which is signed is allowed to run while loading the operating system (OS).
24 mars 2021 · After Mint installation, computer rebooted and I was asked to "Continue boot" or "Enroll MOK". I didn't know what to do and went to search online on the other laptop. While searching, the dialog apparently timed out and the computer just continued booting. Laptop is Dell Vostro 5581 updated to latest BIOS.

14 janv. 2023 · Windows updates may also update UEFI firmware. Which generally is a good thing, but it resets many settings to defaults. So you have to go back and redo any settings you changed. Anything related to MOK - machine owner key is UEFI Secure Boot Related. Many turn off Secure boot at least for now. –

29 mai 2024 · When installing a distribution such as Ubuntu with secure boot activated, the installer creates a MOK key in the NVRAM which can be seen with ‘mokutil -l ’. Later, I decide to change distribution to Fedora, the installer will insert its own key in the NVRAM that I can see with ‘mokutil -l’ but the Ubuntu key is not visible from Fedora.

Typically the MOK password utility is only activated when secure boot is enabled AND you install a driver that must be compiled (like the nvidia dkms driver).
