7 janv. 2017 · 3. The capture en passant is about capturing the opponent's pawn that just moved two steps forward. Don't worry about memorizing which n-th row it is. If your opponent's pawn moved two steps forward, and ended up in the side of your pawn, you can then capture that pawn as if it had moved only one square. – Pedro A.

9 mars 2018 · Why is this done? It sounds superfluous, since an en passant capture can be made only on the very next move of the opponent's, so recording it as such when there is no pawn in position to make the capture seems unnecessary. Is there some historical or technical reason for this?
I only know of four games with three en passant captures in them, with game #2 arguably being the most famous one because of Tim Krabbe. A S Segal-K H Podzielny, 1980. Kudrin-R Douven, 1989. G N Gopal-S Zhigalko, 2005. Naiditsch-B Predojevic, 2006. Can more games with three en passants that exist be found?

3 mars 2020 · 2. The en passant rule is supposed to minimize the effect of the rule change of the double step. Basically, people thought it was boring to always make two moves that almost deterministically follow each other, because at the time you always sought to occupy the center, so they combined two moves into one. The same also happened with castling.
