    Seymour served in the US Army, his decision to join the military encouraged his younger brother Leonard Kravitz to do the same. Sy was a Green Beret, and rose to the rank of Sergeant, serving in the second world war, and the Korean war. During the Vietnam war, he served as a news reporter, so for most of Sy’s early adulthood, he was working in or with the military.
