Le Paradis perdu (Paradise Lost en anglais) est un poème épique écrit par le poète anglais John Milton. Publié à l'origine en 1667 en dix parties, « Divine Comédie du puritanisme » [1], l'ouvrage est rédigé en vers non rimés.

Paradise Lost is an epic poem in blank verse by the 17th-century English poet John Milton (1608–1674). The first version, published in 1667, consists of ten books with over ten thousand lines of verse. A second edition followed in 1674, arranged into twelve books (in the manner of Virgil 's Aeneid) with minor revisions throughout.

Many scholars consider Paradise Lost to be one of the greatest poems in the English language. It tells the biblical story of the fall from grace of Adam and Eve (and, by extension, all humanity).
En mettant en scène deux épisodes cruciaux de la Bible, la rébellion de Satan, Ange déchu, et le péché originel d' Adam et Ève tentés par le serpent, Milton s'interroge sur l'origine du mal dans le monde.
