Lester Koenig (December 3, 1917 – November 21, 1977) was an American screenwriter, film producer, and founder of the jazz record label Contemporary Records. Biography. Koenig was born to a Jewish family in New York City, the son of Minna (Harlib) and Morris Koenig.

The 3500 (mono)/7500 (stereo) series of 12 inch LP records commenced in 1955 and ran until 1961.Contemporary was the first jazz label to record albums in stereo from 1956.
The 3600 (mono)/7600 (stereo) series of 12 inch LP records commenced in 1962 and ran until around the early 1980s.After 3624 all releases were stereo only.
The 14000 series began in 1980 with 12 inch LP records and in 1982 commenced releases on compact disc.After 1992 all releases were CD only.

Lester Koenig (born 3. December 1918 in New York City, died 20. November 1977 in Los Angeles) was an American record producer, founder of the Contemporary Records, Star Records (37) and Good Time Jazz labels, which were well known for their excellent sounding recordings done by engineer Roy DuNann. His son John Koenig also became a producer.
