The Free Design was a Delevan, New York–based vocal group, whose music can be described as sunshine pop and baroque pop. Though they did not achieve much commercial recognition during their main recording career, their work later influenced bands including Stereolab, Cornelius, Pizzicato Five, Beck and The High Llamas.
Hailing from New York, The Free Design were a late ’60s/early ’70s family pop group, releasing eight brilliant albums and influencing countless musicians (Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Cornelius, and Stereolab, to name a few).
The Toronto-based composer, arranger and conductor amassed a body of work that encompasses hundreds of pieces: instrumental, vocal, soundtracks, songs, recordings and performances, all of them the product of an attention to detail and a passion for creativity that captivated casual listeners and fellow artists alike.
