Le 13 août 1987, désormais mariée à Bob Kersee, Jackie Joyner-Kersee remporte la médaille d'or du saut en longueur lors des Jeux panaméricains se déroulant à Indianapolis. Elle y établit la marque de 7,45 m et égale le record du monde de l'Est-allemande Heike Drechsler.
Now known as Jackie Joyner-Kersee after marrying her coach Bob Kersee, she entered the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea and earned gold medals in both the heptathlon and the long jump. At the Games, she set the still-standing heptathlon world record of 7,291 points.

Joyner-Kersee won gold medals in the heptathlon and the long jump in her second Games, and earned a total of six medals throughout her Olympic career. She retired after the Atlanta 1996 Games and briefly played professional women’s Basketball in the American Basketball League.
