Mary Bauermeister has been working as an artist for over sixty years. Her studio in cologne from 1960 to 1962 is considered to be one of the birthplaces of the Fluxus movement. She held her first solo exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1962 and afterwards she moved to New York.
Mary Hildegard Ruth Bauermeister (7 September 1934 – 2 March 2023) was a German artist who worked in sculpture, drawing, installation, performance, and music. Influenced by Fluxus artists and Nouveau Réalisme, her work addresses esoteric issues of how information is transferable through society.

6 mars 2023 · On 2 March, 2023, the multidisciplinary artist Mary Bauermeister died at the age of 88. Her unique oeuvre spans more than sixty years. Some considered her the “Mother of the Fluxus movement”. Her solo exhibition at the Stedelijk in 1962 was a pivotal moment in her career.
