31 janv. 2017 · 1) If I knew you were coming, I would've arrived from work earlier. This is perfectly easy to understand, though as you correctly say, the grammar is not correct. "Had known" is really needed. Still, some native speakers will say this.

16 juil. 2018 · It will be great if you know them both - real. It would be great if you knew them both - hypothetical. Note that there are two verbs- one in the if clause, the other in the main clause. Both verbs must be treated the same- both backshifted, or both not backshifted.
Ie: if I knew the answer, I would tell you. The other is used to talk about something that happened after the fact, in a hypothetical situation. Ie: if I had known the bus was going to be late, I would have slept in.

We use the second conditional to talk about the possible result of an imagined situation in the present or future. We say what the conditions must be for the present or future situation to be different. If people complained, things would change. (People don’t complain at the moment.)
