The Five Stairsteps, known as "The First Family of Soul" and later "The Invisible Man's Band", were an American Chicago soul group made up of five of Betty and Clarence Burke Sr.'s six children: Alohe Jean, Clarence Jr., James, Dennis, and Kenneth "Keni", and briefly, Cubie.
Today, we celebrate the life of Clarence Burke, Sr., the Chicago police detective who left the force to manage his very talented children, who became the internationally revered soul group, The Five Stairsteps, an act named by their mother to reflect the differences in their heights.
