Like previous Eno projects, he hired a handful of different instrumentalists, including Robert Fripp, Phil Collins, Paul Rudolph, Bill MacCormick and Percy Jones.
Before and After Science est un album essentiellement de pop. On peut toutefois le scinder en deux parties. La première, plus agitée, contient les titres les plus énergiques ; la seconde est bien plus calme, délicate et atmosphérique. Une oeuvre forcément éclectique donc.
