Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, in an upstairs tenement at 415 Monroe Street in Hoboken, New Jersey, the only child of Italian immigrants Natalina "Dolly" Garaventa and Antonino Martino "Marty" Sinatra.
His father, Anthony Martin Sinatra, was a boxer who, though born in Sicily, went by the name of “Marty O’Brien” in order to be allowed to fight in Hoboken’s Irish-only gymnasiums. Marty later became a tavern-owner and firefighter.
