Formed in 1971 by producer and former music journalist Uwe Nettelbeck, the group was originally composed of Werner "Zappi" Diermaier (b.1949), Hans Joachim Irmler (b.1950), Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron (b.1949), Rudolf Sosna (1946 – 1996) and Gunther Wüsthoff, working with engineer Kurt Graupner.

Rudolf Sosna. Profile: Rudolf Sosna (1946 - 1996) sang and played guitar & keyboards in the original incarnation of Faust. He wrote much of the lyrics and music of many of their most memorable early songs, like Flashback Caruso and Stretch Out Time from The Faust Tapes, Meadow Meal From Faust, It's A Bit Of A Pain from Faust IV. Three of the members, Jean-Hervé Peron, Rudolf Sosna and Gunther Wüsthoff had previously played in Nukleus, while Arnulf Meifert, Joachim Irmler and Werner ‘Zappi’ Diermaier were with Campylognatus Citelli. The original drummer, Arnulf Meifert left after the first album.

3 janv. 2015 · Tout n'y est que répétition pendant sept minutes, que ce soit la batterie métronomique de Zappi, la guitare abrasive de Rudolf Sosna ou le piano monotone. Et pourtant, ça fonctionne, notamment en épiçant le tout à coups d'effets sonores pertinents. Le point d'orgue de So Far reste néanmoins "No Harm".
