Liona Maria Carolynne Boyd, OC, OOnt (born 11 July 1949) is a Canadian classical guitarist often referred to as the 'First Lady of the Guitar'. [1] [2] [3] [4] Music career. Early years. Boyd was born in London and grew up in Toronto. [5] . Her father grew up in Bilbao, Spain, and her mother in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
Billed by promoters as the "First Lady of the Guitar," Liona Boyd has fully lived up to that accolade. Since the early '80s, she has been one of the most popular classical guitarists; she has also recorded vocal music in the crossover and pop realms after a diagnosis of focal dystonia.
