David Michael Tyson is a Canadian rock music producer and songwriter. He is best known for co-writing Alannah Myles ' 1990 #1 hit "Black Velvet" (with Christopher Ward) and producing her debut album.
David Tyson was a tenor vocalist for the legendary group The Manhattans for nearly three decades. He passed away in February 2022, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of soul music and a new album.

"Black Velvet" is a song written by Canadian songwriters Christopher Ward and David Tyson, and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Alannah Myles. It was released as one of four singles from Myles' 1989 eponymous album from Atlantic Records.
