Note the implied negativity with since + perfect, when naming a period of time.

GET in touch means you have barely discovered this person's identity. STAY in touch is much the same as KEEP in touch. You have already established the relationship.

It doesn't need any sporting reference to make sense. As for baseball, I know more about quantum physics (i.e. nothing).
