The defendant, Kaltenbrunner, was to stand trial not only for his crimes, but also for the actions of the most intricate part of the Reich's bureaucratic system – the RSHA (Reich Main Security Office).
Kaltenbrunner, Ernst, born 04-10-1903 in Riedu to the Inntal in Austria, the son of the lawyer Hugo Kaltenbrunner and his wife Therese Kaltenbrunner-born Udwardy. Father and mother Kaltenbrunner were anti-church and proponents of the integration of Austria into Greater Germany.Ernst educated at the State Realgymnasium in Linz and at Graz University.
