Virgil Earp, né à Hartford le 18 juillet 1843, mort le 19 octobre 1905, était le shérif du comté de Cochise et à Tombstone en Arizona. Il est célèbre pour sa participation à la fusillade d'O.K. Corral avec Doc Holliday et ses frères Wyatt Earp et Morgan Earp (en).
Virgil Walter Earp (July 18, 1843 – October 19, 1905) was both deputy U.S. Marshal and Tombstone, Arizona, City Marshal when he led his younger brothers Wyatt and Morgan, and Doc Holliday, in a confrontation with outlaw Cowboys at the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881.
Wyatt Earp avait servi comme officier de police à Wichita et Dodge City, au Kansas, avant de déménager à Tombstone à la fin de l'année 1879. Il emmenait dans son sillage son frère, Virgil, un mineur et soldat qui allait devenir un policier fédéral de la ville de Tombstone en 1880.

Tombstone Marshal Virgil Earp played poker with Ike Clanton, Tom McLaury, Cochise County Sheriff Johnny Behan and a fifth unnamed man in a back room of the Occidental Saloon until morning. At about dawn on October 26, the card game broke up and Behan and Virgil Earp went home to bed.
