Emiliana Torrini Daviosdottir naît à Kópavogur, le 16 mai 1977, d'un père italien restaurateur et d'une mère islandaise. Elle se fait très tôt remarquer pour sa tessiture de soprano dans la chorale d'église qu'elle fréquente depuis l'âge de sept ans, puis elle intègre l'École de l'opéra de Reykjavik à l'adolescence et, en 1994, remporte le concours de chant des collèges islandais.
