Steven Berkoff est né à Londres en 1937. Il étudie l'art dramatique à Londres et à Paris. Il joue avec différentes compagnies avant de former le London Theatre Group (L.T.G.) en 1968. Leur première production In the Penal Colony est une adaptation d'une nouvelle de Kafka.
