Overdrive pedals, which have lower gain than fuzz, will actually give the sound more grit and bight. When adding more and more distortion, the sound begins to smooth out pretty quickly.

Selmer Reference 36 Tenor, Retro Revival Florida, Florida Link Lig, Alexander DC 2.5 reeds. Mr Spillett now plays and owns Tubby Hayes original MKVI Tenor but played a 7 for many years.
