The Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) was a military flying school based at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire, England. The school, established in 1997, was a tri-service organisation and trained helicopter aircrews for all three British armed forces.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) Formed in Apr 1997 as a Joint Services helicopter flying training service, under the Private Finance Initiative. Civilian contractors run a fleet of civilian owned, military registered (COMAR) training airframes under contract to MoD.
Helicopter crews can fly training sorties using Night Vision Devices throughout the whole of Low Flying Area 9 (LFA 9). Crews may use Nesscliff Training Area, Tern Hill and Chetwynd Airfield as part of their training, as well as practise circuits at RAF Shawbury.

The DHFS also runs transitional courses for potential harrier pilots who come to Shawbury to familiarise themselves with the concept of hovering in a helicopter before progressing to the VTOL aircraft.
