  4. The Reverse Bergen Raise is almost universally used today. Now after 3♣*, 3♦ becomes the help-suit bid. One bids the major at the three-level with less than 12 points and game with 12+ points.

  6. By a Passed Hand. Because of the tendency of many players to open light in 3rd seat, most partnerships nowadays use some version of Drury, a convention which uses 2♣ (and sometimes 2♦ also) as a device for checking the soundness of that 3rd seat opening.

  7. BERGEN RAISES. This convention was first invented by my good friend, Marty Bergen, when we were bridge partners in the 1980's. As first written and played, here were the responses to a 1-of-a-Major opening: 3 =6-10 in support and 4-card support. 3 =11-12 in support (limit raise) and 4-card support. 3-of-the-major (raise)=0-5 and 4-card support.
