Zerelda James was the mother of famous outlaws Frank and Jesse James. She was born in Kentucky, married three times, and survived a raid by the Pinkerton Agency that killed her son Archie and injured her.
Zerelda Mimms was the wife and first cousin of Jesse James, a notorious outlaw and gang leader in the American West. She married him in 1874 and had four children with him, two of whom died in infancy.

Zerelda “Zee” Mimms James was the wife and first cousin of Jesse James. She was born July 21, 1845, to John W. and Mary James Mimms. Mary James was the sister of Jesse’s father. She named her daughter after Jesse James’s mother. Zee nursed Jesse’s war wounds in 1865 at her father’s boardinghouse north of Kansas City.

Zerelda Mimms was the wife of American robber and leader of ‘James–Younger Gang,’ Jesse James. He had gained national fame as the leader of one of the most infamous 19th-century gangs. Mimms knew James even before their wedding as her mother was James’ paternal aunt.
