Peggy Gordon is an American singer-songwriter best known for her role as Peggy in the original 1971 Off-Broadway cast of Godspell. [1] Gordon wrote the music to “By My Side” with fellow CMU student Jay Hamburger writing the lyrics. It was the only song that survived the re-scoring of the show by Stephen Schwartz.

Peggy Gordon's music for "By My Side " is included in every production and recording of Godspell. She was one of the original cast members for the 1971 Cherry Lane production as the "Peggy" clown, and continued to perform in the show for many years.
