Sous-embr. Elginerpeton est un genre fossile de stégocéphales ayant vécu durant le Dévonien supérieur ( Frasnien ), il y a environ 375 millions d'années, dans ce qui est aujourd'hui le nord de l' Écosse. Une seule espèce est connue, Elginerpeton pancheni, décrite par le paléontologue suédois Per Erik Ahlberg en 1995.
Elginerpeton. Elginerpeton is a genus of stegocephalian ( stem - tetrapod ), the fossils of which were recovered from Scat Craig, Morayshire in the UK, from rocks dating to the late Devonian Period (Late Frasnian stage, 375 million years ago). The type species is Elginerpeton pancheni.
2 févr. 1995 · Elginerpeton and Obruchevichthys form a clade that is the sister group of all other Tetrapoda. This contrasts with the later Devonian stem tetrapods, which all seem to represent separate plesions.

Elginerpeton was a large (1.5m or so), robust, proto-tetrapod which lived somewhere in Scotland in the late Frasnian, a bit under 380 million years ago, a few hundred km northwest of its Latvian cousin, Obruchevichthys.

Elginerpetontidae is an extinct family of basal stegocephalian tetrapodomorphs which lived in Europe during the Frasnian stage of the Late Devonian epoch. It contains the genera Elginerpeton, Obruchevichthys and Webererpeton. [1] [2]
