Susan Sarandon a été mariée à l'acteur Chris Sarandon de 1967 à 1979. Elle se lie, à la fin des années 70, au cinéaste français Louis Malle. Elle a ensuite été en couple de 1988 à 2009 avec l'acteur-réalisateur Tim Robbins, avec lequel elle a eu deux enfants : Jack (né en 1989) et Miles (né en 1992).
