12 déc. 2020 · The Godfather director said he regrets making Gardens of Stone, as his son Gian Carlo died in a boating accident while working on the film. Gian Carlo was a camera operator and the film inspired the plot of The Godfather III.
Together they had three children, Gian-Carlo Coppola, Roman Coppola, and Sofia Coppola, all of whom became filmmakers. Gian-Carlo died at the age of 22 due to a speedboating accident in 1986. He had one child, Gia Coppola, also a filmmaker. Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman are Coppola's nephews.
