Shirase Nobu (白瀬 矗?) ( 1861 1 — 1946 1) est un militaire et explorateur polaire japonais. Il mena notamment l' expédition antarctique japonaise entre 1910 et 1912 sur la côte de la terre du Roi-Édouard-VII 1.
Nobu Shirase (白瀬 矗, Shirase Nobu) (20 July 1861 – 4 September 1946) was a Japanese army officer and explorer. He led the first Japanese Antarctic Expedition , 1910–12, which reached a southern latitude of 80°5′, and made the first landing on the coast of King Edward VII Land .
Nobu Shirase (1861-1946) was a man of outstanding qualities and passion. As a boy he developed an enduring interest in polar exploration. Military conflicts punctuated his life and hampered his dreams. He was seven when Japan was convulsed by the civil Boshin War of 1868-69.
Born in Akita. He once became a military officer, but was transferred to the reserves early in his career. In 1893, he joined the Kuril Expedition of Shigetada Gunji and spent the winter in Shimushu Island.

The Japanese Antarctic Expedition led by middle-aged army reservist Lieutenant Nobu Shirase was in Antarctica at the same time and region as Scott and Amundsen while engaged on their attempts on the South Pole.
