Lasse Virén (né le 22 juillet 1949 à Myrskylä) est un coureur de fond finlandais. Quatre fois médaillé d'or aux Jeux olympiques, auteur d'un « double doublé » inédit sur 5 000 m et 10 000 m à Munich 1972 et un autre à Montréal 1976, il n'a néanmoins obtenu qu'une médaille de bronze lors des championnats d'Europe.
Lasse Virén is a Finnish former long-distance runner, who won four gold medals at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics in 5000 and 10,000 metres. He also set world records in both events and became a politician in Finland.

27 août 1972 · Chez lui en Finlande, Lasse Viren était policier et il s’adonnait à la course avec talent. Il avait participé aux Championnats d’Europe de 1971 mais avait terminé bien bas du classement du 5 000 et du 10 000 m. À cette époque déjà, toute son attention était dirigée sur les Jeux de 1972 à Munich.
18 juil. 2024 · Lasse Virén won gold medals in both the 5,000- and 10,000-metre races at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, setting world records in the 10,000-metre event. He was also a policeman and a member of Finland's parliament.
