He competed in the 5,000 m at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1964, setting his personal record. He lettered in track at the University of Oregon in 1954, 1955, and 1956.

  5. Biography. Bill Dellinger of the University of Oregon won the 1954 NCAA mile, but subsequently concentrated on the 5,000m. In 1956 he won the NCAA title and then set a new U.S. record of 14:16.2 before leaving for Melbourne where, after qualifying comfortably he failed to finish in the final.
